About the Author
Diego Torres Milano has been involved with the Android platform since its inception, when he started exploring and researching the platform's possibilities, mainly in the areas of User Interfaces, Unit and Acceptance Tests, and Test Driven Development. This is reflected from a number of articles published mainly on his personal blog (dtmilano.blogspot.com) and his participation as a lecturer in various conferences and courses such as Mobile Dev Camp 2008 in Amsterdam (Netherlands), and Japan Linux Symposium 2009 (Tokyo), Droidcon 2009 (London), Skillsmatter 2009 (London). He has also authored Android training courses delivered to various companies in Europe. Diego is the founder and developer of several Open Source projects, mainly CULT Universal Linux Thin Project, Autoglade, Gnome-tla, JGlade, and has been contributing to various Linux distributions such as RedHat, Fedora, and Ubuntu. The only introduction to Unit Tests for Android

Recently I have fallen for Unit Testing. They are really cool. However, it is very hard to find good books covering this topic. When it comes to Android, it is even harder. Check out any on-line store. It will turn out that this book is the only one that covers this topic. Diego tries to provide you with the basic knowledge related to application testing at Android platform. At first chapter, you are presented various kinds of tests: Unit Tests, Mock objects and UI Tests, Integration tests, Functional tests, System test, Instrumentation, etc. Each of them are slightly different from others thus it is good to know what part of software development they cover. Second chapter covers different aspects of tests execution. You will learn here how to start test for single file for the whole suite, how to group tests using annotations and eventually, how to start tests from command line. At first glance, running tests from command line might seem to be not quite good idea - after all, you have an IDE. However, this may allow you to integrate test phase into your auto building process. This way, you can have your code build and tested at the same place. Third part makes you familiar with assertions and mock objects. Assertions make a lot of troubles for newcomers because they are slightly unintuitive at the very beginning. Diego explains this topic quite easily and provides description of most common used assertion related methods. Mock objects are something different. They allow you to pretend the actual objects. This is quite important especially in case of database related testing. Fourth chapter is devoted to Test Driven Development. This approach is really cool. At first it looks slightly awkward - you have to write something that tests things that do not exist. However, after you start using it, you won't be able to imagine any other way of development. Well, I exaggerate a little bit, but there is part of true in this statement. Keep in mind that each approach has its flaws and there is no silver bullet, how Mr. Brooks used to say. TDD may not be applicable to your particular use case. But still, it is worth considering. Chapter eight covers very interesting topic related to continuous integration. In any sufficiently large project it is more than required to have continuous integration provided by automatic build and automatic test processes. One issue here is that this topic is not covered very extensively. If you read the book, it might look like a quite easy thing to do. Believe me it is not. Usually it turns out that you have lots of exceptions from the general build rules and you have to deal with them. However, this is nice introduction to the topic. Profiling is not covered perfectly as well. This is a biggest issue of all the books that cover testing related contents. They tend to show you how to measure things but they doesn't explain how to interpret them. In fact it may end up with using R and some statistic related topics to get things well interpreted.

Drawbacks? There are always some. I think, in case of this book there are few but these are not the major flaws for the content. Book is slightly outdated, it doesn't cover most recent release of Eclipse and Android related SDKs. If you will use most recent Android SDK and most recent Eclipse release you will definitely be abel to tell the difference. Sometimes it is hard to follow the book because of these small differences. For example, you will notice that screen shoots represent something different from what you see on your screen. However, Diego provides you with detailed configuration he has used during book composition, this way you can install everything that is needed and you can configure environment exactly the same way as Diego did - this is a big plus for the author. Another issue are missing, so called, flavors of the topic. I miss here detailed description of how to test mock data from the database. This is really big topic. And it looks like everybody avoids it. How to create sample data, how to create good database related tests, how to combine artificial and real data during development. Diego doesn't cover this topic, however as an excuse for the author, I can say that there are very few places you can find description of this issue.

If you want TDD(test driven development) technique, you can choose TDD books.

One of a few Android testing reference books

I have to say that for a novice Android developer like I am, I learn a lot from reading the Android Application Testing Guide. Best-in-class testing techniques are covered in this book which are commonly practiced in the agile development. These include Test Driven Development, Behavior Driven Development, Continuous Integration, etc. They in generally oppose to the traditional approach of doing test and integration at the end of development cycle. However, as author states in the book, there is no silver bullets in software development - the suggested testing approaches might not apply to certain needs or projects. But I can see that for a large complex project, applying these methodologies and techniques will likely increase in the productivity and quality.

Numerous tools are introduced in this book. This may be one of the big issues for those who are less-advanced in Android development. Since there is no common repository of these tools, extended knowledge of a varieties of open-source tools, and ability to incorporate them with the development process are required. I wish that there would be consolidated repository for all testing tools or even better all required testing functionality would be built-in in the SDK. Well, before when that would happen, this Android Application Testing Guide book is probably one of a few reference books that has the complete collection of Android testing topics.

About the Author

K. Hüsnü Can Başer, PhD, earned his doctorate in pharmacognosy at Chelsea College of the University of London, UK. He is currently a visiting professor at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He has held various positions at Anadolu University, including dean of the faculty of pharmacy, head of the department of professional pharmaceutical sciences, head of the pharmacognosy section, member of the university board and senate, and director of the Medicinal and Aromatic Plant and Drug Research Centre (TBAM). He has communicated 940 papers in 262 symposia, and has published over 700 papers in international refereed journals, 144 papers in Turkish journals, 141 papers in conference proceedings, and 52 books or book chapters. Gerhard Buchbauer, PhD, earned his doctorate in pharmacy and philosophy at the University of Vienna, Austria. In 2002, he was elected head of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Vienna. He retired in 2008 and is still a member of numerous scientific committees and societies as well as a member of several editorial boards, including the Journal of Essential Oil Research, the International Journal of Essential Oil Therapeutics, and Scientia Pharmaceutica. Locked into the 20th century, but still helpful to learn basics about EO's

I am an MD and read this carefully cover to cover before offering my opinion. This is considered a scholarly book for perfumery or food science but in my opinion, it is outdated or perhaps has been too censored for medical applications. There is zero mention of the endocannabinoid transmitter system - the largest neurotransmitter system in the mammalian body. And it is likely these are the signalling transmitters that give EO's their activity inside humans. As an example of a common herb, there is no mention that Echinacea inhibits inflammation because it is a CB2 receptor agonist and that the chemical constituent is an important sesquiterpenoid, beta-caryophyllene, that signals through the CB2 receptor. I was hoping this long academic tome might offer a link between modern neuro-science and "complementary medicine" but this is locked into 20th century industry. I think I learned more about how EO's work on humans from Pub Med and Google Scholar. An important reference books to accompany this if you choose to use it is Essential Oil Safety: A Guide for Health Care Professionals-, 2e. If one wishes to join the 21st century and learn about the endocannabinoid system, there are many sources including Handbook of Cannabis (Handbooks in Psychopharmacology).

I bought this book on October 2010 from Amazon site and I read it. The authors gave a great effort and valuable times for this book. I recommend this book to scientific reseacher who related essential oil and terpenes chemistry. I would Thank you Dr.Baser and Dr.Buchbauer for nice working.

They are too good to be true

What a trading series is ! ! ! , excellence. They are too good to be true. The series are very easy to read. However, they are extremely difficult to study. As one reviewer wrote that you needed to study like studying Calculus to absorb the knowledge. They are as difficult as like study Electromagnetic Field. Once you master the series, you will trade profitably.

Must have one!

Must have one! The first book was with the same title "Trading Price Action" published a couple of years ago where Al tried to put so much information that hardly fit into. This book is a part of three books TPA: Trends, Trading Ranges, and Reversals. The first part that is may be 15-20 pages is the same in all three books and the rest if different. I am very thankful to the author on his time it took to put all his observations into his last three books. The title says bar by bar analyzing and this is exactly how it is in the book. The book printed in a very good big format where you can see every detail of the chart. Most of charts are very recent. Al provides a very good conclusion of what is happening behind every bar and the idea of what possibly will be next. All three are extremely helpful books!

Author's Note About Previous Version�This following is a note about story changes and updates for those readers who read the original version of this story in the�12 Shades of Midnight�anthology.Switching Hour�was originally part of the�12 Shades of Midnight�anthology which was available for a limited time in 2015. The�original story I wrote has since been adapted as necessary for inclusion in the�Magic and Mahem�series. This copy--the one containing this note--is a highly revised�and extended version. You as a reader will notice many changes from the original, which was intentionally crafted to fit anthology guidelines.The most noticeable of changes is in characters. In the anthology version, Chapter 1�was originally co-written with my good buddy, Dakota Cassidy, as part of a fun and�fabu experiment.�In the anthology,�Switching Hour (by me)�and�Witched at Birth (by Dakota)�include the same, or nearly the same, beginning. At the end of that original Chapter One our characters went separate ways--an intentional creative decision we made together--and our stories went their separate ways too.�After the anthology was removed from publication, Dakota and I both released our stories on their own. We each made as many changes as we felt necessary to make them work in their new individual series. The biggest change I made was in�creating a brand new best friend character for my heroine, Zelda.�The new character has a different name (Sassy), a different storyline, and will return in later series books because that is what best friends do.�If you are a Dakota fan, as well as one of mine, you may notice our Chapter One remains similar even in our newly released versions. Unique and funny

Zelda has just served a nine month sentence in the witch’es prison for killing her cat who just happened to be her familiar; it was an accident. A strong healer, what had her sentenced for so long was that she’d been using her magic for selfish reasons, conjuring up designer clothes as well as expensive cars and vacations. On her release she’s given back a portion of her magic and is on probation for a month and needs to complete a task during that time. Her aunt had left her a house and she’ll know what to do when she gets there. She had an aunt? If after a month’s time she doesn’t complete her task, all magic will be removed and she’ll become mortal. Only she’s not quite sure what that task is.

One of the things I’ve enjoyed about this author’s writings is the crazy main character she often comes up with. This one is selfish with not quite the intense potty mouth of another popular lead character. With Zelda, it’s the names she comes up with for others that stands out.

The situations are definitely unique and funny, but I found it difficult to like Zelda for a good chunk of the book. Due to her upbringing, she’s never been emotionally close with another and to protect her heart, just doesn’t want to establish connections with the people who like and appreciate her. Hang in there; it takes a while but things do change. And thankfully, the secondary characters are likable and interesting enough to carry the story until that time.

A Fun Read!

"Switching Hour" a "Magic and Mayhem Book 1" is another fantastic addition to the collection of paranormal romance novels by Robyn Peterman. Zelda starts out materialistic and self absorbed. She just finished spending nine months in a prison for witches due to her obsession with high end fashion and running over her familiar. Now on probation, she has a month to complete a task or face being turned into a mortal. Can Zelda find her place in the world, or will she return to her nomadic ways? Overall, this is another fun novel featuring a slightly unbalanced but loveable female protagonist. The secondary characters are wacky as well, but in a good way. If you like Robyn Peterman's other novels, you'll enjoy this one as well.

Simply amazing!!

Since I discovered Fashionably Dead, I have come to love all the books from R. Peterman. She is just an awesome writer, with great books that should be mandatory to read. No joke. In this new series we meet Zelda who I came to wish was part of my family or bff, I will not spoil the story, there are more 5 stars reviews if you don't believe me. Now the hard part is to wait very patiently for the next book. There are different series, and yes I buy them all. And let me tell you, my money is well spent. I now am the proud owner of all these amazing books from Robyn, which I re-read because they are funny, lift my spirit, are just wonderful, they transport me to another place where I dream I am the main character, and so much more. Thank you Robyn for all of these stories, you have no idea how much they mean to me and many other readers I bet.
