About the Author
Roger LeRoy Miller has served on the faculty of several respected universities, including the University of Washington, Clemson University, and the University of Miami School of Law. As a professor, he has taught intellectual property law and entertainment law, among other subjects. A widely published and respected author, his work has appeared in the Insurance Counsel Journal, Defense Research, California Trial Lawyers Journal, Antitrust Bulletin, Wisconsin Law Review, and Connecticut Law Review. He has authored or co-authored numerous authoritative textbooks on law, including BUSINESS LAW: TEXT & CASES; BUSINESS LAW TODAY: TEXT & SUMMARIZED CASES; and THE LEGAL ENVIRONMENT TODAY. Professor Miller completed his studies at the University of California at Berkeley and University of Chicago.

An excellant source for business law!

I own a copy of the third edition, and have just sent for this new one! It is an excellant book for anyone that wants to learn about any type of business law. It gives great examples, and really gives you a solid foundation on which to learn more. I reccommend this book to EVERYONE!!!!!

Nice Mix of Theory And Practice

As a long time reader of Circuit Cellar Magazine, I have seen many authors come and go; most of them excellent, none bad. Robert, in my opinion, is in the 'excellent' category. So, when Circuit Cellar advertised Robert's forthcoming book, I of course put my order in here at Amazon. I received the book and have been reading it cover to cover. I was not disappointed. You should be aware, however, that most of the chapters are updated versions of Robert's Circuit Cellar articles with corrections, along with some new material (FFT tutorial and appendices). Personally, I was not disappointed as it is nice to have Roberts's collection in one manuscript. If you don't have a subscription to Circuit Cellar (why don't you?) the book will be of particular more value to you and save you the time of searching for Robert's articles. If you do have a subscription to Circuit Cellar (particularly an electronics version), you will have a corrected version of Robert's articles that is more current and value if you have not read his material in the past. You will find that some of the listings (Scilab in particular) were misprinted (spaces inserted in between variable syllables, but this is a minor irritation. Every book has its bloopers; these types of bloopers are no big deal if you are reading the article to learn and expand upon anyway. There is a companion web site with file downloads.

Much of what is contained in the book can be repeated with free software (Scilab, MPLAB, PUFF, QUCS, etc.), some projects require purchased hardware (DDS chips, PLL, and other discrete components). Again, that should not be an issue to the serious hobbyist/engineer. I don't know for sure, but based on Robert's tools, I'd say he's a fan of open sourced software. Infact, there were a few open source projects I read about in this book I was not aware of (QUCS in particular). Many of the chapters use specialized equipment that many do not have access to (e.g. a spectrum analyzer) but that's a side effect of the topic and shouldn't present too big of a barrier to the resourceful reader.

Expanded and Bound Articles Published in Circuit Cellar

If you have not been reading Circuit Cellar magazine, this is an easy 5 stars. This book delivers concrete advice and practical applications for material that was dealt with on a purely theoretical basis in college. The diagrams are clear and the examples are walked through a step at a time. Mssr. Lacoste excels at explaining highly technical topics, and does so with excellent illustrations and a minimum of math.

I gave the book 4 stars rather than 5 because I expected and hoped that the articles would be expanded more than they have been.

Should be Required Reading by All.

I have read and used much of the material in Roberts book. I recommend it as required reading by all engineers. I have verified the accuracy and content of the FIR filters and use of Scilab for the digital modulations. Robert is at the top of World Class Engineers, especially for those who apply this work into practice every day. Thanks Robert.

This is a facsimile in full color of De Divina Proportione ("On the Divine Proportion"), printed June 1st 1509 in Venice, of which only two copies reached our XXIth century. He drew fifty nine of the sketches it includes, which form the earliest work from the artist’s hand to appear in print. Luca Bartolomeo de Pacioli (1445-1517), Italian mathematician and Franciscan friar, wrote the full text of it. He and Leonardo da Vinci set forth a way of describing the visible world in terms of its common geometrical elements, what he calls the "divine proportion", equally known as the "Golden ratio". Even the layout of this book, which we may find somehow surprising today, Pacioli and da Vinci drafted it on a geometrical grid with respect to the divine proportion.

De Divina proportione also is one of the most remarkable illustrated books published in the sixteenth century. Based on the writings of Plato, Euclid, and Vitruvius, and arguing his thesis by means of exegesis and the generous use of evocative illustration, Pacioli claims that this proportional element is shared by a variety of solid bodies, from human anatomy to architectural forms and even to the composition of the letter’s design in the Roman alphabet.

Today we don’t know how many copies of De Divina Proportione were printed in Venice by printer Paganinus de Paganinus. Two surviving copies only exist, one at the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan, and the second at the Biblioth�que de Gen�ve in Geneva, Switzerland.
For the intersection of art and science and the active engagement of the pre-eminent genius of the period, Leonardo da Vinci, this is one of the most iconic works of the Italian Renaissance. The clarity of both the written material and Leonardo’s diagrams gave the book a popularity beyond mathematical circles. It has since then been reprinted several times and translated in many languages.

Not quite what I expected.

Maybe the fault is mine for the expectations I had with it. I thought a "facsimile" was an edition imitating the original. On the contrast, this is a completely modern textbook with scans of the original pages printed in each shiny white page.

About the Author
Born in 1864 in England, James Allen took his first job at fifteen to support his family. Allen worked as a factory knitter and later a private secretary before writing his first book, "From Poverty to Power", in 1901. In 1903 he completed his best-known work: "As a Man Thinketh". Allen wrote nineteen books, including his spiritual journal, "The Light of Reason, "before he died at age forty-seven in 1912. While not widely known during his lifetime, Allen later came to be seen as a pioneer of contemporary inspirational literature.

This book is an excellent overview for the study of Susan Reiseman's book Kinsey, Crimes, and Consequences. It is repetitive in parts, but that can be a good thing.

It is a book that should be read by all taxpayers and educators. One can then better understand how blatant porn and sexual attitude restructuring (SAR) came into the classroom via SIECUS and has been normalized or mainstreamed into the populace.

Rape victims and their advocates, and victims of child sexual abuse really need to know how the Model Penal Code was developed using Kinsey's flawed "scientific" research, thus leaving the abuser free to do it again, and again, and again.

Considering that all sex education in our schools is based on this deplorable human being's "research," this book should be widely read. Most books I have read on this subject concur with the conclusions in this book. Since this is a fairly short read, it is a good place to start as an overview. Parents, look into this subject before the corruption of your children is a done deal and you become, in their eyes, a bigot.
