This book was so good, I loved the characters

This is not your typical, smutty, trashy step brothers romance. The reason these two families came together you will not see coming. This book was so good, I loved the characters. You will yell out loud at them for the way they are hurting each other. And you will fall in love with them. This book is a great little adventure to jump in. I don't think you will regret buying this book.

WHERE IS BOOK 2....Taming the Heiress????

I am spool into this book that I was disappointed that this is book 1 of a trilogy published in 2015. Where's the rest of the series???????? Dying to keep reading. I HATE cliffhangers. PLEASE release books 2 & 3 soon!!!!! Would have been 5 stars if not for the missing books.

Sweet and gritty

Ray's mother has a vendetta against Serenas father and manages to snare him and marry him soon after Serenas mother dies. She then uses her son to get control of his company. Her plan is for Ray to seduce Serena and get her controlling shares too, however Ray actually loves Serena and her him too. After a drunken encounter after her 18th bday bash she goes off the rails as Ray doesn't remember any of it. Then after another drunken encounter, Serena goes to find Ray to declare her love and overhears him and his mother plotting and has an accident.
This book is fabulous and I could have cried when I got to the end and it ended on a cliff hanger. She's so angry at him and uses the accident as an excuse for payback and to pretend she doesn't remember their encounter. There were sweet moments, moments where you thought hoooo is it hot or is it just me, many OHS/oh holy sh&t moments and moments where you deliberately read faster so you could find out what happens next. As with all of Eve's books it's sweet yet gritty at the same time and I really enjoyed it. Sadly shaking my kindle didn't give me more pages to the book so Now to wait impatiently for book 2.

Best Book Ever

Just finished number 4 in series and loved each and every one. I got immersed in with the characters & was living it with them.
During the wedding plans, preperations, and wedding, I cried as much as if they were family. One of the best books I have ever read. Hope number 5 comes out soon. Congratulations Sherri, I would give you 10 stars if I could.

Where to start? First, this story was wonderful! It is the perfect package - intriguing plot, fascinating characters, & a definitely satisfying conclusion. I dare you not to shed at least a few tears at the ending! I'm so glad to hear that this is not the final book in the series, that there will be a book #5.

An Introduction to Cardiovascular Physiology

As a physiologist, educator, and author, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this excellent, cutting-edge textbook. For example, in the explanation of the mechanism of fluid transport in the microcirculation, this textbook provides a well-documented rationale for a revised Starling Principle. The text is organized into 18 chapters and two appendices. Each chapter is well illustrated and contains many color graphics that enhance the presentation of the materials for ease of comprehension, making it appropriate for beginner and advanced students as well as practitioners. A very useful addition is the access to web resources and research papers. This is an excellent textbook and I would highly recommend it to those interested in studying cardiovascular physiology.

Excellent book--but no glossary

I recently used this book for a cardiovascular physiology class. It was very good. Unlike many science books, it seems the author can not only describe the material accurately, but he can write too! The only pitfall was a lack of a glossary.

so the diagrams were fairly dull and boring

I purchased this book for an upper level Cardiopulmonary Physiology class I took last semester. We used it for the heart and vessels sections for half of a semester (before moving onto lungs).
Pros:
1. The book was fairly well organized and consistent in chapter layouts
2. There were objectives at the beginning and a review section at the end of each chapter
3. The figures were fairly helpful and the figure keys were thorough
Cons:
1. The book was a drag to read at times I would catch myself falling asleep reading it all the time
2. The writer would go into extreme detail on some of the basics and then glaze over the harder concepts.
3. The book mostly only contained red and black ink, so the diagrams were somewhat lackluster and boring.
4. The book should have been priced cheaper because it was made cheap (but what is college without the overpriced books?)

Trust Me: Even You Are Not Invisible. At Least Not Yet.

THE ART OF INVISIBILITY is a little bit scary. The authors, Kevin Mitnick and Robert Vamosi, document the myriads of ways that others can spy on our activities. You might think no one knows what you are doing, but you are wrong: "Each and every one of us is being watched." If you carry a cell phone, "You are being surveilled."

Mitnick tells the story of how the famous John McAfee, on the lam, was found supposedly by coordinates listed in the meta data of a photo posted online. The authors snicker, "Take it from me: if you’re trying to get off the grid and totally disappear, you don’t want to start a blog."

Some of the pointers are pretty basic, such as using strong passwords, and being careful to setup your home Wifi using the latest security protocols. A large chunk of the book relates to securing wireless internet access. "Public Wi-Fi wasn’t created with online banking or e-commerce in mind. It is merely convenient, and it’s also incredibly insecure."

More advanced suggestions are for those who feel they need extreme online privacy. These tactics include things such as using "burner" phones, paid for with cash, and using encryption tools to hide the data on our laptop.

Law enforcement has come a long way in tracking down fugitives. The authors explain how authorities use devices to mimic cellular base stations, and "designed to intercept voice and text messages." Using another tactic, the FBI has successfully tracked criminals by getting the cell tower data, and correlating their cell phone records.

I was surprised to learn of certain recent laws regarding data preservation. In the event of a legal investigation, you must preserve your entire browser history. You can be arrested--and people have been, for clearing the history.

The really meaty parts of the book provide extreme tactics to remain anonymous on the internet. Mitnick advises creating a complete new persona, "one that is completely unrelated to you. . . When you’re not being anonymous, you must also rigorously defend the separation of your life from that anonymous identity."

The first thing to do in making yourself anonymous is to get a cheap standalone laptop--used only for your anonymous persona. "Don't ever use the anonymous laptop at home or work. Ever."

Here are a few more tips for becoming anonymous:

* When you travel, don't bring electronics that store sensitive information with you.
* Encrypt the confidential data on your laptop.

The authors present a LOT of different ways to make your online persona more invisible. The authors admit, however, that even with all their precautions, it is still tough to be 100% anonymous. The main idea is to make it much more difficult for the intruder. So, put up "so many obstacles that an attacker will give up and move on to another target. . . Being anonymous in today’s digital world requires a lot of work and constant vigilance."

All in all, I found THE ART OF INVISIBILITY to be an interesting, fairly-practical read. It was good to be reminded about the proper setup of networks, and how vulnerable public systems can be. I don't feel the need to go out and buy a "burner" phone anytime soon, but it's good to know.

Your potential employer saw your browsing history. You should have read this book before applying!

Where do I begin? I've been a computer geek my entire life. Well, since 1982, anyway. My dad bought me a Commodore 64 computer back then. I can't hardly remember a single day that has passed since then that I haven't had a computer in front of me at some point during the day. Heh, I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing!

Anyway, as a developer and security enthusiast, I've always been interested in the hacking scene. Back then, when Kevin Mitnick and Kevin Poulson were in the news because of their "activities", I was glued to the t.v. I wanted to know everything they did! See, the thing is, I was like them. I craved knowledge. I wanted to explore that hidden and forbidden world of the byte and the baud that consisted of inter-connected mainframes and central stations via phone lines. I dialed into a lot of "boards" (BBSes) and got "forbidden knowledge" of what they used to call "phreaking" (phone hacking) from text files uploaded by phreakers. I thought it was just fun and games and never really did anything with the so-called "power" that I had gleaned from those text files.

Fast forward to today, things are a lot worse, security-wise, with regards to computer security and threats to your private information. Especially since our daily lives are now entertwined with this ubiquitous thing called the internet. Every interaction we perform in our browsers, or internet-enabled applications, leaves information and trails that can be used against us. Our phones, even our automobiles, can be used to track us via GPS. Our credit card purchases can be used to build profiles of us that can be bought and sold to third party customers. Recently, the current U.S. Republican administration repealed a bill that would've prevented ISPs from selling your browsing information to private parties. Nothing you do online is private anymore. Nothing. This isn't like information that Facebook and Google collect on you. The ISP information is every single page that you go to in your browser. Think about this, for a moment: You have a medical condition. It's being treated and no one but your closest family knows about it. Like almost everyone with your condition, you browse online about it and have joined online support groups. Your child also suffers from a condition. They are autistic. Like almost any concerned parent, you look online to learn more about you child's condition and, too, to share your experiences and learn from others in similar situations. Recently, you've applied for a new job through a recruiter. They assure you that you're a perfect fit based on your resume and your phone screening interview with them. They want to pass your resume on to the company now, which you give your consent to do so. Now, the company that will be doing the hiring does something that, in the past, they couldn't have done: They buy your browsing history from your local ISP. They don't need your consent for this. Your browsing data is considered the ISPs property now and can be sold as a commodity that is tied directly to you. Your prospective employer can now see that, based on your browsing history, that you have a medical condition and a child with autism. Which, more than likely, means you will probably miss a lot of work. So, they do what any good business will do: They pass on your resume. You don't even get a chance to interview with them. Your resume gets deep-sixed based soley off your browsing history and nothing else.

Now, with that nightmare scenario fresh in your head, I want you to understand that when I say this book can help you to avoid such a situation, I really mean it. From encrypting your email, to setting up a VPN, to using the anonymous Tor Onion browser and other security methods, this book can help someone that doesn't know anything about internet security by showing them how to secure their private information, their browsing habits, their email, and all online activity. Seriously, in this day and age, it's almost a sin not to be aware of at least the basic dangers out there in "cyberspace". With this book, you can be very sure that if you follow the steps provided, you'll be very secure from most of those threats.

I really enjoy Kevin Mitnicks work. Both his books as well as speeches and demos and overall life stories, hes innately a good story teller in my opinion.

Now I've read his other books, Ghost in the Wires, Art of Intrusion, and I really learned a fair amount reading them. I initially knew almost nothing about phone phreaking when those books came out and I finally read them. Fast foward in time a good deal and I know a good amount more about security, OPSEC, security researching ectect...

As other reviewers have said, this book is a good read, but its alot less technical/advanced than his other reads.....

This is what I will say without ruining the book for you. Just go to the pictures I've included and look at the chapter page, if you think you know everything about everything about these topics, maybe this book isnt for you. It still is an entertaining read though.

Keep it up Mr. Mitnick.

About the Author
Elie Holzer is a practice-oriented philosopher of Jewish education. His research integrates text based Jewish studies, philosophical hermeneutics, pedagogy and ethical-spiritual traditions. He serves as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Education at Bar-Ilan University in Israel, co-designed the Beit Midrash for Teachers at Brandeis University in the years 2003-2008, and has taught in various academic and vocational institutions in both Israel and the United States. He has published a number of research articles on text based learning and on havruta learning and serves as assistant editor of the International Journal of Jewish Education Research.

Orit Kent is a Senior Research Associate at the Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education at Brandeis University, where she also teaches in the DeLeT/MAT program. Orit co-designed the Beit Midrash for Teachers at Brandeis and has taught in it since 2003, where she has developed an approach to the teaching of havruta and the close study of student learning. At the Mandel Center, Orit conducts research on collaborative learning and pedagogical approaches to the teaching of texts and draws on her research to help teachers create rich learning environments.

A book for the dedicated math fan

"The Imitation Game" was my favorite movie of 2014. I devoured the shows on PBS about cracking Enigma. I was glad to start reading this book. Soon I wasn't so glad. The writer, a mathematician, doesn't have the gift for narrative needed to bring Turing, and the group at Bletchley Park, to life.
The trivia included rather than pruned shows a lack of writing skill. For example, in early chapters about Turing's schooling, one reads nearly every note sent home by a schoolmaster. But a more major event (nailing Turing under floorboards) was glossed over in a sentence without a comment by the author as to impact, or primary source quote concerning the incident.
More troubling is the utter boring chapter on Bletchley Park. How can this chapter be boring? Yet it is. The explanation and sketches of how Turing's machine worked are unsatisfactory. I didn't learn anything from the authors (and I had several advanced math classes in college). I contrast this with biographies of physicists, contemporaries of Turing but written by writers (Richard Rhodes, for example): gripping books that manage to explain quantum theory or the workings of particle accelerators quite well.
Absolutely unsettling is the jarring way the author skips from topic to topic. On one page he note that Turing accepted his sexual orientation; on the next there is talk of suicide. Again, there is no comment by the author. Considering how Turing's life ended, one would expect more explication here. Related to this topic is the story of Turing and Bob Augenfeld, the young refugee Turing sponsored. Turing propositioning the minor Augenfeld would today be classed as sexual predation, yet the author glossed over it, noting that Augenfeld remained friends with Turing. An alternative explanation might be that Augenfeld hoped Turing would help get his mother out of Vienna, and did not seek to sever the relationship for this reason. This was in 1941.
In summary, this book was slow reading, even for someone interested in the man and the topic. I give it 3 stars because of the importance of the topic and the many contribution Turing made to mathematics and computer sciences.

Not an easy read, and a long book

This book is a difficult read. I have a science background, and technology does not slow me down, but I found the writing at some times inscrutable. Not an easy read, and a long book.

Too many digressions and diversions at the beginning!

I am upgrading my review from *** to **** as I plow through the book. The book is quite good, but quite detailed or technical. Not for a general reader.

It is quite good to see the role that Turing played during WW II and how effective he was. He was also very ineffective at times because he was clueless about social clues and unwilling/unable to understand military/war hierarchies. Still a fascinating and detailed, detailed, and more detailed book.

My original review:

Digression after digression, especially at the beginning of the book. Do I really need to know what letters Turing sent to a friend's mother or how she replied? Quite distracting. Too many digressions about historical figures, too. There is too much of that in the first 15% or so of the book.

Once the book gets into Turing's post-graduate work and his work to create computers, that kind detail is very useful -- and relevant.

I ordered this book as a Kindle book, because there were too many complaints about the small font in the print copies. It's easy to read on a Kindle app.
